Ted Teague approaches the practice of law as a practical problem solver, using his experience as a big- firm lawyer, in-house counsel, and family business owner to understand the particular needs and goals of his clients, counsel them on the risks and benefits of potential courses of action, and then implement solutions tailored to specific client objectives. Ted practices in the areas of business transactions, commercial real estate, and civil litigation. He brings to his practice broad and diverse experience as a federal judicial clerk, attorney at an international law firm, in-house lawyer to a multistate healthcare system and public university system, board member of multiple nonprofits, and founder-owner of a multi-generation family business.
Ted Teague’s practice is informed by three key bases of experience:
- A foundation of experience practicing law at a high level, gained as a federal judicial clerk, attorney at an international law firm, and in-house counsel to large, highly regulated organizations.
- Experience from the legal client’s perspective, with accountability for budgets and outcomes, gained as an in-house counsel managing engagements with outside counsel.
- Experience in managing a business and addressing operational challenges, gained through working closely with clients, including work embedded in operational teams while an in-house counsel, through starting and managing a family business, through service on the boards of multiple organizations, and through formal training in graduate business school.
After undergraduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ted completed a joint degree in law and business at Wake Forest University (JD/MBA, 2002). He began his legal career as a federal judicial clerk to the Honorable William L. Osteen, Sr. in the Middle District of North Carolina, and then spent several years in private practice at large firms including the international law firm now known as Kilpatrick Townsend and Stockton, where his practice focused on commercial real estate transactions and complex civil litigation. Ted’s in-house experience is as Associate General Counsel of Novant Health, and Associate General Counsel for Business Affairs and Real Estate at the University of North Carolina System. In his career, Ted has represented clients, ranging from individuals to publicly traded multinational corporations, in hundreds of business transactions, negotiations, and disputes. Before going to law school, Ted helped found a family business now in its second generation, where he remains involved as an owner. Ted’s extensive community involvement includes deep experience on the boards of non-profits with missions in the arts, education, health care, and human services.
